Welcome Parents,
I am very excited about this school year. We are beginning the school year with a unit on Indians. In the first few weeks, we have built Totem Poles and carved animals from soap as the Aleut Indians did. In the next two weeks, we will be building tepees, making masks, and decorating our shields for battle. I sincerely hope that your child shares some of the things we are doing in the classroom. If they do not, ask about what exciting things we are doing.
One of the most important things you can do for your child is READING. Not only is reading beneficial to your child, but to you also. Some ways to help your child in reading are: (1) Read at least three times a week to your child. This may be the newspaper, a magazine, or a book. Reading as an adult helps ease the strain of every day life and helps you relax. (2) Turn off the TV, and turn on togetherness by setting aside a family reading time at least one time a week. (3) Communication is important. Research shows that kids who hear their families' stories do better academically and make better choices when confronted with temptations. So MAKE READING IMPORTANT IN YOUR FAMILY THIS SCHOOL YEAR!!!
