Self-contained
27 years experience
South Side Elementary School in West Point, MS - third and fifth grade Title I Math and Reading.
GUES from 1984 to date.
While in Grenada I have gained experience teaching sixth grade Social Studies and all fifth grade subjects.
I have three degrees from Miss State University:
1. Bachelors in Elementary Education.
2. Masters in Elementary Education.
3. Specialist in Elementary Education.
Classroom Philosophy:
I believe an education is the second most important possession a person can have. (The first is a close relationship with God!) I like to have a calm, quiet classroom where each person is able to work peacefully. I want all students to respect themselves and each other. I do not give a lot of homework. I want my students read books and study at home. I also want them to learn to function as a member of their family.
Homework:
These things should be done each and every day!
My students may have homework everyday. I suggest they write it down on a sheet of paper each day. Parents please see that your child does homework and studies every evening.
Study vocabulary words, notes, and spelling words at home. Also read the story we are on at the time. I want my students to read 3 AR books each 9 weeks and take tests on them. They are to keep a reading log on a sheet of paper. They should write the title of the story and the author's name on it. They will be expected to do 1 written bookreport each 9 weeks. They may also do pictures, poster, or anything else creative as a part of their reports. I want them to have fun and enjoy doing the reports. Students who complete all these AR requirements will be given a prize.
READ, READ, READ !!!!!! The more you read, the better reader you'll become!!!!!

Schedule:
We usually spend two weeks on a story. Week one the students get their vocabulary words and spelling words. (The spelling words for the whole year are in the back of the reading book. They start on page 744.Some of the vocabulary words are in the vocabulary lesson the comes before each story.) They will also listen to the story tape. We have our spelling test on Friday of week one. Week two we work on skills from the story. Our reading test is on Friday of week two.
