About the Teacher:

Welcome to Mrs. Hoffman's Webpage: 

This year I am teaching Reading, and Social Studies in a traditional 5th grade classroom setting.  My new teaching partners are Mrs.Worsham, Mrs. Miller and Ms.Kilgore.  Mrs.Worsham teaches Science,Mrs. Miller teaches Math, Mrs. Kilgore teaches Language. We are located on Hall 3.

For those of you who do not know me I attended LSU(GEAUX TIGERS) in Baton Rouge,LA, my hometown.  I moved to Grenada,MS in 1989 and finished my degree at DSU, in Cleveland, MS. 

I have been teaching in the Grenada School District for 18 years, and hope to keep teaching here until I retire.

Classroom Philosophy:

I am a structured person, and I like a lot of order in my classroom.  I think students perform at their best when they know what is expected of them, and there are the least amount of distractions possible in the room.  I also like a lot of humor in my class so that my students love to come to school.

Homework:

I RARELY give homework!  What I do tell the students to do is practice and study EVERY night.  Spelling words, Vocabulary words, the Skill for the Week, and the Comprehension Questions are typed to go home EVERY Monday.  We read the story in class and they are aware that the Spelling Test is always on Thursday.  The Reading Test is on Friday (unless a holiday interferes). There should be NO reason they are not prepared for all tests if they start drilling these facts a little each night.  It is very important that they learn HOW to study in 5th grade so they are ready to take on more difficult material as they progress.
