WELCOME TO MRS. BRITT'S LOOPING CLASS

ABOUT THE TEACHER

Dear Families,

I am looking forward to serving as your fourth and fifth grade looping teacher. My class is self contained. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call or set up a conference time. My conference planning period is from 1:30-2:15 each day.  The school telephone number is 226-2818 and my home phone is 283-4485. 

PERSONAL INFORMATION

I live in Winona, Mississippi and  I am married to James Britt.  We have been married for 28 years. James works for the Mississippi Department of Transportation out of the Winona office.  We do not have any children so,  your children will be my children.  I am excited to get to know each one of my students as well as their parents.

This past year I completed the process to become Nationally Board Certified and I also began graduate school through the University of Mississippi.

CLASSROOM PHILOSOPHY

I believe that all children can learn.  It is my job to provide them with the necessary instruction.  I will do everything within my power to see that your child succeeds in school. 

A LITTLE HUMOR:  If you don't believe everything that your child comes home and says about me then I won't believe everything that your child comes to school and tells me about you.

OUR DAILY SCHEDULE

7:30-7:45--sharpen pencils, get books together for calls, problem of the day

7:45-10:55--Morning Block (During the morning block we will typically work on reading, math, and language)

9:15-9:30--MORNING BREAK (bathroom, snack)

11:-11:25--lunch

11:25-11:35--bathroom break

11:35-1:25--Afternoon Block (Finish any work left from the morning, Science, Social Studies)

1:30-2:15--Activity

2:15-2:35--Bathroom, Students may use this time to work on homework

2:35--Dismissed

HOMEWORK

I send out homework sheets every Monday. I try to be as detailed as I possibly can.  If you have any questions, please feel free to call.

STUDENTS NEED TO BE LEARNING THEIR MULTIPLICATION TABLES.  IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT THAT THEY DO NOT WAIT UNTIL WE BEGIN MULTIPLICATION TO LEARN THEM.

GRADES:

Students will bring home signed paper folders on Wednesdays (beginning on 8-20-08).  There will be a form in their folder requiring your signature.  Please take the time to inspect your child's work.  I will take up the folders on Thursday and if their folder is signed they will get a 100 in one of their subjects. 

ACCELERATED READER--As soon as students complete the Star Reading test in computer class, I will send a report of their reading level home as well as their required points for each 9 weeks.  It is very important that the students earn their AR points each nine week since it will be a part of their overall reading grade.

AR MATH--The equipment needed for AR math has been ordered for my classroom and as soon as it is installed, we will begin.  I will let you know more when I am ready to begin.

GUES PRINCIPAL'S BREAKFAST

This monthly program is to reward students who display outstanding academic achievement and/or exceptional citizenship in their classroom and throughout GUES.  Students may be nominated by any GUES faculty or staff member.

One student will be chosen from each homeroom each month.  Students will be served breakfast in the cafeteria with Mrs. Jackson and Mrs. Tharpe from 7:10-7:40 a.m. There will be reserved seating, and students will receive a certificate.
