Each GUES student participates in two 45-minute physical education classes per week with certified PE teacher, Coach Amy Barham and her instructional assistant, Mrs. Cammie Harges. Classes at GUES take part in Project Fit America sponsored by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation. Project fit America is a program designed to enhance all Children’s physical health and well being. Today’s youth live in a culture that is unique in so many ways. There are ample opportunities for our students to be sedentary. Active outdoor play has dwindled. Project Fit America has been developed to assist with the health restoration of our youth. Project Fit activities are student tested. Fitness transformation is in progress at GUES. Project Fit America gives the teachers the ideas, lessons, equipment to get kids moving and having fun. GUES students love every minute of PE and Health class. You can see photos of the students having a blast in PE.
Students also participate in an additional 60 minutes of physical activity with their classroom teachers including indoor activities, such as stretching and movement in place activities, and outdoor activities that range from basketball and football games to foot races to games played using the Peaceful Playgrounds painted on the road behind the school.
