General music is taught at Grenada Upper Elementary to all students. National, state and district skills in music continue to be the foundation for the school’s music curriculum. Students are exposed to keyboard instruction and Orff instrument instruction through which they hone their music skills.
Students are allowed to audition for two plays per year. At Christmas, the school alternates between two Christmas classics: A Christmas Carol and The Nutcracker. This year—2009—we are presenting A Christmas Carol. In the spring of 2010 we will be doing a children's classic. Information about this will be forthcoming.
Pizzazz! 2010 is the Grenada Upper Elementary showchoir group. It is made up of fourteen fifth graders selected by audition at the beginning of the school year. The group performs for school functions, civic clubs, nursing homes, businesses, etc. as they are invited to do so. Mrs. Billie K. Shute is the group’s director. Mrs. Tina Sanford, Claire Sanford and Katie Beth Walton add the choreography.
Auditions for Pizzazz! 2009 will be held on Monday, August 10, in the GUE Gym and in the Music Room. Audition forms will be available when students return in August for school. Requirements for audition include: sing My Country Tis' of Thee acapella and from memory, repeat a few vocal patterns using "la"(individually) and a choreography audition which will be done as part of a small group on the stage.
