GUES Greenhouse 2008-2009
Director: Melody Shaw
Assistant/Hands-On-Tutor: Lois Gaskin

The GUES Greenhouse is an extension to the Discovery Lab. Students will receive opportunities to learn more about plants, gardening and nature through weekly lessons. When weather does not permit a Greenhouse visit, Mrs. Gaskin will come to the classrooms to continue working with the students.
Thank you Bell South Pioneers for your donation and support of the GUES Greenhouse.

Note from Mrs. Gaskin:
Welcome to the GUES Greenhouse! Yes, you are invited to come and volunteer to give us a hand on some of our educational adventures. We might travel on the USS White Rope across the Big Black Solid Ocean to a land unknown to our travelers to discover what educational fun we can have in the woods. Students will build to log cabins, create our own thunderstorm, and serve up some good ole homemade mud pies. We spend a lot of our class time in the Greenhouse learning all about photosynthesis, pollination, germination, fertilization, propagation, and parts of plants. Students also help in our vegetable garden.
Parents can help out by reminding students on Greenhouse day not to wear their best uniform clothes. It's best to wear older uniforms and shoes you don't mind getting dirty. You can also help by donating good used or new flower pots or containers, ferns you don't plan to overwinter, geraniums, or any other plants you would like to donate.
The Green Thumb Garden Club members and Bellsouth Pioneers are some our special volunteers that are greatly appreciated.
Grenada County 4-H Youth Development Agent, Jan Walton also provides assistance on some of our projects at the Greenhouse. |

The fence for the outside garden was made possible by donations from BellSouth Pioneers and Grenada Lake Corp of Engineers. Volunteers that helped to build the fence are Jerry Gilliland, Chairman, Rodney Waters, Carl Latham, Wayne Stark, Al Walton, Ronnie Houston, Mike Mansfield, L.C. Coleman, Pete Jackson, Chad Gray, and Lois Gaskin.

Time to Take a Trip
September 2008
The students are going on a journey in the Greenhouse. They are learning history and sailing across the Black Sea on the USS White Rope. On the shore of a new world the students have to plan their new homes and village.

Once we arrived on our new land we began making our cabins.
