Spring is in the air, flowers are in bloom, and at GUES that means it is time for Elementary Idol.  This year all proceeds from this event will benefit the Make- A -Wish Foundation.  This foundation grants wishes to children from 2 ˝ through 18 years of age who are battling life threatening illnesses.  The Make-A-Wish Foundation was founded in 1980 after a little boy realized his heartfelt wish to become a police officer.  Since its humble beginnings, the organization has blossomed into a worldwide phenomenon, reaching more than 193,000 children around the world.

A network of nearly 25,000 volunteers enables the Make-A-Wish Foundation to serve children all over the United States.  Volunteers serve as wish granters, fundraisers, special events assistants and in numerous other ways.  Here in Grenada Mrs. Dolly Marascalco leads this effort.  In preparation for this upcoming event Mrs. Marascalco has shared her enthusiasm for this worthy cause.  Mrs. Marascalco has been involved with this foundation for over seven years and has helped grant six wishes within Grenada County.  She states, “Being associated with this foundation and seeing the smiles on the children’s faces as their wishes are made possible has enriched my life immensely.”

On Thursday, March 31st at 8:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., or at 7:00 p.m. the public is invited to the GUES auditorium to support our efforts in raising money for this important cause by attending the performance of Elementary Idol.  By attending the show you will not only be supporting our students’ hard work and talent but also helping to make dreams come true for children with life threatening medical conditions.  Admission for the performance is $3.00 for adults and $2.00 for school age children.

Mrs. Carol Tharpe, Assistant Principal at Grenada Upper Elementary states, “We are very pleased to have the opportunity to connect with the Make-A-Wish Foundation.  With children as our greatest resource, we could not be more pleased than to support this meaningful project.”
