The Parents' Campaign is...

The Parents’ Campaign is a nonprofit, grassroots network of parents and citizens who are committed to improving Mississippi’s public education system.

The Parents’ Campaign Is Not…

affiliated with any political party or any other education association.  The Parents' Campaign does not endorse candidates or “grade” legislators.

The Goal of The Parents’ Campaign Is…

to ensure a quality education for all Mississippi children.

Fast Facts About The Parents' Campaign

§    Incorporated on March 31, 2006 to address our State Legislature’s failure to fund public schools at the level required by law in the Mississippi Adequate Education Program (MAEP)

§    Was successful in achieving full funding during our first year of operation

§    Is based in Jackson, Mississippi, but has volunteers in all areas of the state

§    Has over 45,000 members

How It Works

The Parents' Campaign seeks to improve public education by influencing legislation that affects the quality of education offered Mississippi children.  We do this by:

§    Informing our members of who their legislators are and how they can be contacted

§    Notifying our members when legislation is introduced that affects public schools and what the effect of that legislation will be

§    Informing our members of how their legislators vote on pertinent education bills

When constituents pay attention to their votes,

                                           Legislators generally respond favorably.

Recent Success

In the 2008 Legislative Session, The Parents' Campaign promoted the State Board of Education’s Quality Education Act of 2008.  Bills passed as a result of this effort:

§    Full funding of the Mississippi Adequate Education Program

§    Funding for Pilot pre-kindergarten programs

§    Funding for the Expansion of the High School Redesign Program

§    Teacher Supply Fund increase

§    Increase in teacher pay increments extending to 35 years

§    Superintendent accountability

§    Improved training for school board members
